Welcome to Pennsylvania General Energy.

PGE’s website includes information about our company, about the way we do business and about the development of oil and natural gas in the Appalachian Basin. Oil and natural gas production has a rich past in this region, dating back to Col. Edwin Drake’s first well in 1859. With our country’s need for new and indigenous sources of energy, the region’s future has the potential to be as exciting as its past.

The pages of this website provide a look at how PGE develops new oil and natural gas reserves and develops its wells in a safe and responsible manner, and how we focus on creating positive and sustained relationship with the people we engage in the course of operating our business. On behalf of PGE’s dedicated employees, I hope you find this website to be useful and informative.

Sincerely

Douglas E. Kuntz

An Introduction to PGE

headquarters
PGE’s commitment to the local community is reflected in the company’s purchase and rehabilitation of the former Market Street Elementary School building.  The building now serves as PGE’s corporate offices, generating local taxes and putting more workers in downtown Warren each day.

PGE is a Warren, Pennsylvania-based company that has been quietly and successfully producing oil and natural gas for over 30 years. PGE currently operates more than 1,100 oil and natural gas wells. Our company has become a leading energy production company in the Appalachian Basin.

We utilize a number of technologies to discover and develop our oil and natural gas wells, often in areas that have been overlooked by other companies. PGE’s geologists and engineers often rely on two or three-dimensional seismic testing to identify oil and natural gas reserves, and use many advanced techniques such as horizontal drilling to stay in the forefront of our industry.

PGE is proud of its contributions to the regional economy and natural environment, as reflected in the company’s motto: “Producing the energy we need, protecting the environment we treasure.” The company’s natural gas is sold to local suppliers and its oil is shipped to local refineries that employ hundreds of our region’s workers, making a significant contribution to our economy.

We are equally proud of our record of environmental stewardship and commitment to use the industry’s best management practices in every aspect of planning, constructing and operating our wells.

The 2004 donation of subsurface mineral rights to 13,600 acres by PGE and its partner, PPL Corporation, to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources allowed for the conservation of the
Hammersley Wild Area in Potter County, considered the most important wilderness area in the commonwealth. One of the Hammersley’s pristine streams is shown on right.
